Craftsy: Sketching Landscapes

Merry Christmas Morning!

I gave myself an early present to go with some items I put on my wish list and bought a Craftsy course on sketching landscapes in pen, ink and watercolor.  I must say that I’m quite impressed.

The course has 7 lessons, each with 3-4 subsets.  The length is typically between 15-30 minutes per entire lesson, but you can pause and go back as you wish.  For $19.99, I feel like this was a steal!

I have already created a wish list as there’s a ton of ‘courses’ I’m interested in, including sewing kits with instruction.  I keep struggling to find clothes I like and think I should learn to make my own.  I digress.

Back to the course at hand, I have used some of the information presented to do my first sketch in my new Handbook Travelogue!  It is an awesome little book that I plan to fill with landscape and urban sketches.  I just need to find some beautiful compositions in this area.  There are lots of pretty, but it’s typically marred by guard rails and electric lines.  Bleh.

So here’s the inspiration photo taken on my way to work on my phone:

Sunrise over the swamp.

And here’s the sketch of that scene.  Not quite as vibrant, but a good start I think!  I used the Inktense Pencils and Micron pens to complete the work.

So, obviously I have some work to do overall, but I really feel like I’m starting to get some good forward movement on composition and that is awesome.  A.D. got me a sick Sony a6000 for Christmas and is *slowly* teaching me how to use it.  The slowness is on me, I’m a little overwhelmed, but I know I’ll get there.

This past year has been so amazing, I can’t wait to see what this year has to bring!
