Necronomicon Art Journal Project: Massive Reconstruction

So.

Necronomicon deconstructedTurns out that not all paper is watercolor friendly, no matter the poundage.  I did not know this when I bought the art journal I started to transform into my very own Necronomicon.  I think I may have mentioned this in an earlier post.

Last night, I became a girl possessed; odd on Halloween.  Either way, I decided to take action in the form of an Exacto knife.  I cut down each side of the inside seam of the book and removed the bound paper.  I then had the carcass of a Necronomicon.  Cool.

How hard can it be to find 8.5″x 11″ watercolor paper?  I mean, that’s a pretty standard size for paper.

Watercolor sized up...Guess what? Not in watercolor world.  I ended up with a pack of 9″x 12″ Strathmore Watercolor Paper.

This wasn’t the end of the world though.  Since the Necronomicon is never physically described in Lovecraft’s works, but is popularized with hoary, tattered pages, I figured I could just rip the edges off and use some Distress Inks to ‘age’ the paper.

Take a peek later this week for posts on my first pieces, as well as the interior makeover of the Necronomicon!
